Holiday Movie Junk: Save 50% on Blu-ray Discs

Well, it's the day after Christmas -- Santa has packed up his sh*t and ditched town for another whole year -- and we're left with some stuff we want, some stuff we don't want and some stuff we haven't yet figured out. Like me, most of you will probably head on back to the mall today or over the weekend to do some returning, and with that extra cash in your pocket you might be looking for something film-related to pick up. Well, those new and old Blu-ray costumers should seriously run on over to Amazon.com, who have put roughly 200 titles on sale for 50% off.

There's no time like the present to stock your Blu-ray library, and if you haven't picked them up already, here are a few titles we definitely recommend WALL-E ($24.49), Bottle Rocket Criterion Collection ($23.99), The Thing ($16.49), The Shining ($13.99), A Clockwork Orange ($13.99) and The Nightmare Before Christmas. That should get you started ... now head on over to Amazon.com to check out the rest.

We here at Cinematical hope you're having a wonderful holiday season!

Holiday Movie Junk: 'My Name is Bruce' Action Figure

This Entertainment Earth catalog could just be the death of many a film fan's bank account. I'm hypnotized by what's on offer here -- none of it is exclusive to the catalog, mind you, but it's so nicely collected and distributed here. It's like ComicCon in paper form or something.

The latest discovery is this: Dark Horse's My Name is Bruce action figure, which you can order via the catalog or from Dark Horse directly. He's still on pre-order, so you can recover your Christmas budget a little, or put him on your birthday list. I really don't know if this falls into "cool" or "scary," but I'm leaning towards the former because of all his delightful little props. He comes with everything pictured -- the Campbell angel and devil, which attach magnetically to his shoulder, Shemps Olde Tyme Whiskey, a Bruce collectible toy in a melted package, Refreshing Lemon Drink, a miniature edition of If Chins Could Kill, and a big honkin' gun. Dark Horse claims that it was produced from a 3-D scan of Campbell, and that he lent them one of his own Hawaiian shirts to copy. With so much work, won't you hug and cherish his miniature self?

Holiday Movie Junk: 'The Birds' Barbie

We haven't yet featured a Holiday Movie Junk item specifically for girls, and so when Cinematical reader Peter H. pointed us in the direction of this fantastic little doll, we just had to write about it. Barbie has taken on more looks than Britney, Lindsay, Christina and Paris combined over the years, but this latest one -- inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds -- is easily one of the best I've ever seen.

Do you have a little girl at home who's into creepy Hitchcock flicks and likes to collect Barbie dolls? Something tells me those are a rare breed, but even if your little one isn't very familiar with The Hitch, the movie geek in you can still pick this sucker up -- if only to remind your children what good horror is supposed looks like (even though the website claims this is for the "adult collector"). From the Barbie collector website: "Dressed in a re-creation of the stylish green skirt-suit worn by the film's ill-fated heroine in an iconic scene, Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" Barbie® Doll celebrates the 45th anniversary of the acclaimed film. From the doll's classic ensemble to the perfectly painted expression to the accompanying black birds, every aspect captures the film's infamous appeal."

The doll retails at $40, and you can purchase her right over here.

Holiday Movie Junk: Star Wars Sheets

You have to hand it to Pottery Barn. Not only did they recognize that a new generation needed Star Wars bedding, but they knew that their retro designs would awaken a desperate wave of nostalgia in adults -- so they've kindly offered these all the way up to Queen sized. Is there such a thing as a child-sized Queen bed? I honestly have no idea. If these can only fit on kid beds, well, now you know what to buy that little boy or girl geek in the house. We try to cater to all ages here, after all.

Those of you not brave enough to sleep on Star Wars sheets (and I really think you should; imagine how blissful and comforting it would be) can still indulge your fandom with a classy "A Long Time Ago " throw pillow, or a fuzzy Star Wars blanket. Wouldn't that combo be nice and cuddly on your favorite movie watching seat? I think so! Anyone who would come into your inner geeked-out sanctum and judge your decor doesn't deserve to share popcorn and surround sound with you anyway.

Holiday Movie Junk: Red Ryder 'Christmas Story' BB Gun

"You'll shoot your eye out!"

When I was writing about that list of 12 (not 10) things you might not know about A Christmas Story, I did a bit of surfing around the Christmas Story Official House website where I found all sorts of goodies related to the film. Not only did I learn about an auction where you could bid on and win a chance to sleep in the Christmas Story house on Christmas Eve (winning bid was somewhere around five grand), but they also have a shop with stuff to purchase. Like, um, an actual Red Ryder BB gun. Sweet!

To celebrate the film's 25th Anniversary, they're selling this limited edition A Christmas Dream BB gun. From the site: "For the 25th Anniversary of "A Christmas Story" that very same design "A Christmas Dream" can be yours. Packaged in a retro Red Ryder box with a custom sticker and certificate of authenticity, all of the graphics are engraved. A compass, marked with a brushed silver-tone metal rim, is recessed next to the engraved sundial. A silver band around the stock commemorates the Silver Anniversary of "A Christmas Story." On the right side of the stock, the Red Ryder logo includes the Fred Harman signature and the forearm is marked with the edition number, from 1 to 1500."

Some states do not allow the sale of BB guns or air guns, so you'll have to stop by the site to see whether you're legally allowed to purchase one. If not, there's tons of other merch -- like the famous leg lamp, a decoder ring and more. Check out the entire collection over here.

Holiday Movie Junk: Rocky Balboa's Robe

We're getting down to the wire when it comes to holiday shopping -- and there is surely a man on your list who is impossible to shop for, one who's allergic to sweaters, never needs ties, and doesn't play golf or fish. You should buy that man a Rocky Balboa robe. I don't think very many men would sneer at a Rocky robe, even if they aren't collectors. This isn't just a goofy prop, this is useful clothing! He'll feel really macho as he wears it around the house, he'll look respectable when he goes out to get the Sunday paper, and have a very clever Halloween costume in a pinch. Hey, it might even inspire him to take up a new fitness regimen!

You can get this at the Official MGM Store, where it just happens to be on sale -- I suggest you use the extra money to buy the red, white, and blue boxer shorts as a solemn reminder that we all can change ... or at least so he can amuse himself shadow-boxing Ivan Drago.

Holiday Movie Junk: Swatch 007 Villains Collection

Our Holiday Movie Junk series continues today with a nifty collection from Swatch called the 007 Villains Collection, which are a collection of 22 Swatch watches inspired by the 22 villains in the Bond series. If you're like me, you have no idea what you want this holiday season and pressure is mounting from loved ones who "just want to get their f**king Christmas shopping done already!" Well good news is you should definitely find a nifty purchase somewhere in here. Personally, I love stylish ways to pimp out your movie geek persona, and if you're a James Bond fan (I know plenty of you are Bond fanatics), there are some very cool watches in here (like the one above, based on the villain from Live and Let Die).

We've gone and built a gallery of our favorites to give you a little taste of what they have, then feel free to head on over to the Swatch site to pick one (or four) up. Right now, it looks like only 12 watches are available for purchase online, and they range in price from $60 to $245. (You can also buy the entire collection for a cheap $4,000.)

Holiday Movie Junk: A Brandon Bird Print

For years, I've seen a painting of Christopher Walken at a toolbench on my friend's MySpace -- I never knew where it came from and I was afraid to ask. Well, thanks to AICN's Quint and his Holiday Guide, now I know. It was a painting by Brandon Bird, and if you're looking for an art print for that quirky, impossible-to-shop-for film fan, his gallery is where you need to go. There is someone in your life who needs a framed copy of the above, titled No One Wants to Play Sega With Harrison Ford. , There's also the Lambertback (if they're partial to Highlander), or It's a Kind of Magic and the Walken still life, Lazy Sunday Afternoon. A trip through the gallery is hilarious and baffling in its geeky genius. You'll encounter everyone from James Woods as Jesus to Mr. T as Maximus Decimus Meridius, and all the flights of fancy in between. Check out a few of our favorites below, then definitely head over to the gallery to see the rest.

Holiday Movie Junk: Movie-Inspired T-Shirts, Part 3

Above: Evolution of the AT-AT

I don't know about you, but I'm addicted to t-shirts -- so much so that in the wintertime, my lady went out and bought me a bunch of long-sleeve thermals to place under my t-shirts because she was appalled by the fact that I would rock out t-shirts in 20-degree weather. But I'm a dude, and dude's are morons like that. Anyway, continuing along with our totally awesome Holiday Movie Junk series, we now present our third round of movie-inspired t-shirts ... because, if there's one fact I'm certain of, it's that movie geeks LOVE to pimp out their movie-inspired t-shirts. And if you want to be "the cool friend/family member/total stranger" this holiday season, you'll think about getting them one of these very cool t-shirts from our good friends over at RedBubble.com.

To make things easier, we've pulled out the best movie-inspired t-shirts RedBubble has to offer and placed images, along with direct links to that particular t-shirt, in the gallery below. Additionally, we've included the galleries for our previous two movie-inspired t-shirts posts.

Holiday Movie Junk: The Ark of the Covenant Business Card Holder

Apparently, academic studies have been done arguing that the more Spartan your workplace, the more likely it is that you'll be promoted. If you are the sort of person who is cheered by family photos, an action figure, or a concert poster, you're rather screwed in the business world. So, you have a tough choice ahead of you -- becoming CEO of your company in the next five years, or showing off your fandom with this lovely Ark of the Covenant business card holder.

If you choose fandom over financial glory, then you can find it at the Entertainment Earth catalog. You can also get the Holy Grail (think of how many "You have chosen ... wisely" jokes you can make) and a fertility idol to hold your pens. Shockingly, there is not a Sankara Stone desk lamp, or a Crystal Skull anything. (Thank goodness.) I think the business card holder is the classiest and most useful of the bunch though and who knows? It might just be subtle enough to evade detection by your draconian overlords.

Holiday Movie Junk: Personalized Hoff Poster

I know you probably haven't had your daily dose of awesome yet today, and so might I suggest ordering a personalized David Hasselhoff poster for that special someone in your life. Over at the site Universal Poster, one can actually choose between several Hoff posters before being able to personalize the thing with your own words ... but in Hoff's handwriting! And to think you were just about to buy your kid a boring old Dark Knight DVD when stuff like this exists in the world. Other celebrities on the site include Tom Jones, Julio Iglesias and Paul Potts. Each poster runs £7.95 without the personalization, and with it this marvelous piece of holiday joy will cost upwards of £15.45. Feel free to thank us when your dorm room is the hottest spot on campus.

Holiday Movie Junk: Singing Gizmo Plush

I'm trying to resist this plush from NECA. I'm trying really hard. I have a stuffed Gizmo somewhere, and to have another would be a betrayal of his plush feelings ... but this one sings. That's right, he trills that lovely Mogwai tune that so enchants Billy's dad that he buys him for a surprise Christmas gift. It didn't just enchant Billy's dad, though. I stayed awake at night dreaming about a Mogwai, it was one of those fantasies I was just sure would come true if I wished hard enough -- just like owning my own orangutan. Other kids asked for ponies, I wanted Mogwais and orangutans. My dream could finally (kinda) come true with this.

I've embedded a YouTube video below so you can enjoy it for yourself. I suspect it's the kind of thing that might get old quickly (unlike if it was the real Gizmo who be your friend), which is probably why NECA released a Christmas version. Santa Gizmo seems like the perfect thing to bring out, year after year, to delight everyone in the family. Think of how you could terrorize the wee ones in your house by warning them what not to do with a Mogwai -- come on, it fosters responsibility!

Holiday Movie Junk: Twilight Action Figures

Tonner strikes again! Elisabeth posted about the company's action figures last month, and now they're riding in on the fangirl insanity otherwise known as Twilight. Collider has posted pictures of the new figures, which you can pre-order now for shipment in the Spring of 2009.

But beware -- you'll be pre-ordering without a pricetag. "Pricing information to be announced at a later date." That's just bad form -- having people order without the price. Are they going to decide what it is once they see how many people pre-order? Nevertheless, methinks that won't stop fans from grabbing mini versions of Bella and Edward. Look at and order Bella here, and Edward here.

Am I right Twilight fans? Will you be placing your order and hoping for the best price-wise?

Holiday Movie Junk: 'I Am Legend' Ultimate Collector's Edition

Since it looks like we're going to get some sort of I Am Legend prequel or sequel down the road, leading to what could be a new, hip movie franchise featuring Will Smith, why not spend some time this holiday season with the newer original remake (that sounds weird, right?), and learn a bit more about the mythology behind the film. I know a lot of people aren't too keen on I Am Legend (The Smith Version), though I kinda dug it on my first viewing. Granted, I didn't see the film until it hit Blu-ray last year, and I watched it with the alternate (and better, in my opinion) ending, but ultimately I thought it was a fine, entertaining little creepshow.

Those willing to give the film a second chance (or watch it for the first time) might want to dive into this pretty nifty Ultimate Collector's Edition, in stores December 9th on DVD and Blu-ray. The latter edition arrived at my shack yesterday and I have to say it's a pretty neat little toy. You can purchase the collection on DVD for $39.95 over here and on Blu-ray for $47.95 over here. Check out what you get:

Blu-ray:

• 3-Disc Special Edition DVD
• Exclusive 44-Page Concept Sketch Book
• 10 Concept Illustrations
• 6 Art Cards Showing International Cities Devastated by the Plague
Virus
• Collectible Lenticular
• Letter from the Director
• New Movie Commentary by Director Francis Lawrence and
Screenwriter/Producer Akiva Goldsman

More after the jump ...

Holiday Movie Junk: Movie-Inspired T-Shirts, Part 2

Continuing right along with our Holiday Movie Junk series, today we have yet another batch of movie-inspired t-shirts for you to sink your wallets into. This time we're pointing you toward our good friends over at Dutch Southern, who've just debuted two new shirts (see above and below). These are the folks behind the very popular Tarantino Babies t-shirt, featuring characters from all of Quentin Tarantino's films as babies. As you can see, their new shirt, It's What's On The Inside That Counts (designed by Andrew Gregory), features a group of classic movie monster-ish characters like Rocky Dennis, Darkman, Edward Scissorhands, Rell the Cyclops and more. Additionally, they've also got a pretty sweet Death Wish t-shirt, designed by Tom Burns (check out the image down below). Both t-shirts are available in all sizes and can be purchased for seventeen bucks via the Dutch Southern website.
